Global Steel Alert
Global Steel Alert (GSA) is an “early warning system” for steel long and flat product buyers and sellers that tracks and forecasts steel pricing and related developments. It provides critical and actionable information heretofore not available. The system consists of a database, marketplace feedback and special analyses. The database consists of:
-
Monthly production, imports and exports for long products and hot-rolled sheet, cold-rolled sheet, galvanized sheet, tinplate, welded tubing and coiled plate figures since 1997 for 20 countries or regions. The data are expanded, via statistical means, into a complete database for eight regions of the world.
-
The data are often analyzed and displayed on a long product equivalent (LPEQ) and hot-rolled band equivalent (HRBEQ) basis. This approach permits us to better perceive changes in regional supply/demand balances and to compare the (HRBEQ) data to regional operating cost and hot-strip-mill capacity estimates.
The complete system is forecast two to three months ahead by using WSD’s special technique that ties the figures into our monthly crude steel production estimates.
Our goal is to identify buyer or seller “pricing-power crossover points” regionally and globally.
Global Steel Alert seeks to provide such persuasive, accurate and surprising, if not controversial, information that steel buyers and sellers the world over are more likely to modify their behavior patterns to the evolving realities of the marketplace.
WSD’s subscribers receive Global Steel Alert on a hard copy and website basis as part of their regular $10,500 per annum subscription. Please contact us, for a free copy of the latest issue.
